Under the general direction of the District's Chief of Public Affairs, an Information Officer II, the Information Officer I (Specialist) is the Public Information Officer (PIO)/Customer Service Liaison (CSL) who performs the more complex professional and technical tasks associated with a comprehensive program to inform the public and local agency partners of the District's and Department's programs and activities.
Incumbent also oversees and coordinates responses to the District's Customer Service Request (CSR) Program, acting as the liaison between the public and the Maintenance Division, preparing and managing the District's CSR program. This program may be the first point of contact for the public, government agencies and elected officials in reporting concerns about construction, maintenance, operations and the safety of California highways and freeways, and the liaison tracks and resolves these customer service issues. Incumbent will also assist with the development of media and general communications campaigns; provide proactive and reactive responses to media and stakeholders; prepare briefing reports, write and edit documents; and support internal and external communications. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
