Police Officer – Portland Police Department

Responsibilities:

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls as part of a team handling over 80,000 incidents annually.
• Patrol diverse areas, including Portland’s historic downtown, residential neighborhoods, Peaks Island, and the Portland International Jetport.
• Engage with residents and businesses to foster trust through community policing initiatives.
• Participate in specialized units such as K9, Dive, Hazardous Devices, Crisis Negotiation, and Special Reaction Teams, or develop expertise in accident reconstruction, arson investigation, and victim services.
• Collaborate with state and federal agencies, including assignments to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and FBI Safe Streets Task Force.

Qualifications:

• Strong commitment to integrity, service, and public safety.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and engage with diverse communities.
• A degree in Criminal Justice or related fields is preferred but not required.
